Planned and Estate Gifts

In addition to including SF State in your will, you can establish an annuity or other income-bearing arrangement that benefits you and possibly your heirs, and at the same time benefits SF State!

Membership in the Alexander C. Roberts Legacy Society is an honor bestowed upon those who have informed us that they have included SF State in their estate plans. The University recognizes Roberts Legacy Society members on our special donor wall and at a private annual recognition event.

Real Estate and Appreciated Assets

Donations of real estate and other appreciated assets, such as fine art, are welcome. We can help guide you through any liquidation arrangements, including the handling of all the sales if you prefer. Real estate and appreciated assets may be donated outright, as well as through planned giving.

Stocks and Bonds

By giving stocks, mutual funds or bonds you may avoid paying substantial capital gains taxes and can deduct the full value of your gift from federal taxes. Gifts to San Francisco State University may be made by wire transfer. Contact Danielle Horcabas at dphl@sfsu.edu or (415) 338-3573 to make a gift via wire transfer and obtain the appropriate forms with ABA routing numbers and account information.

In-Kind Donation

The value of a gift in-kind is tax-deductible and may include a range of tangible personal property, such as equipment, supplies and personal libraries. We’ll help match your potential donation with a particular need at the College of Health & Social Sciences.

Corporate and Foundation Support

The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) facilitates and strengthens partnerships with companies and foundations to advance the college’s and our partners’ missions. For more information, please contact our CFR team: Julie Moed, senior director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, (415) 405-3809, jmoed@sfsu.edu, or Joel Streicker, director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, (415) 405-3826, joelstr@sfsu.edu.

Payroll Deduction

SF State employees can make charitable contributions to the College of Health & Social Sciences or to an area that is most meaningful to them by completing the authorization form for Payroll Deduction.

Types of Funds

The giving opportunities below may be funded with outright donations, bequests or other types of planned gifts. Contact us to learn about existing funds you can support or to find out how to establish a new fund within the College of Health & Social Sciences.

Scholarships

Direct your contribution to an existing scholarship fund or consider naming a new scholarship. 100 percent of contributions for scholarships supports our students.

Endowing a scholarship is a meaningful way to support generations of CHSS graduates in perpetuity as the fund grows over time. The minimum contribution to endow a named scholarship fund is $25,000, which can be paid over multiple years. We request that an initial pledge payment be made, plus spendable cash to award for scholarships until the endowment accrues interest.

Donors may also create a non-endowed named scholarship through a minimum donation of $5,000.

Endowments

An endowment to establish a named scholarship, chair, fellowship, or a fund to perpetually strengthen any program ensures that the College of Health & Social Sciences will continue to achieve its objectives — especially the ones you care about most. With the perpetual income generated by your named endowment, you will influence the future through the graduates shaped by your visionary generosity.

Dean’s Fund

To support the priorities of the College of Health & Social Sciences, consider contributing to the Dean’s Fund. Donations will be used to support a variety of high priorities across the college at the dean’s discretion.

Department Funds

Donate to a specific department or program’s general use fund to provide discretionary support for its greatest needs, such as funding for student research, equipment and supplies, continuing education and others.

Tribute and Memorial Gifts

Are you looking to recognize or remember someone who has made a significant impact on you, such as a professor, mentor, classmate or loved one? Honor someone special, as either a living tribute or a memorial, by making a gift in their name. The honoree or loved one of the deceased will be notified of your special tribute.
